2023 PROMOTIONAL PROCESS

Testing to the Rank of Lieutenant and Captain

 

All notification throughout the Promotional Process will be made by e-mail only from the
Illinois State Police Merit Board.

TEST DATES

 

Testing to the rank of Lieutenant and Captain is scheduled for the week of September 18-22, 2023. 

Individual information will be released at a later date. Testing will take place at the Illinois State Police Merit Board Office in Springfield. Click the link below for an address and map.

TEST DECLARATION 

 

To be eligible to participate in the 2023 Promotional Process, all candidates must:

1. participate in the 2023 P3 Ratings session (*must elect to be considered for promotion in SPEAR),

2. complete the online Test Declaration form by required deadline, and

3. have obtained and provide proof of a bachelor’s degree by June 30, 2023.

 
The 2023 Test Declaration period was held from 8:30 AM on June 1, 2023, until 4:00 PM CST on June 30, 2023, and is now closed.  
 

If you did not complete the Test Declaration Form by the deadline you are NOT eligible to participate in the 2023 Promotional Process, therefore, your candidacy will not be considered for the 2023 or 2024 Promotional Certification Lists.  No exceptions will be made.

ORIENTATION

 

The Illinois State Police Merit Board's online candidate orientation for those testing to the ranks of Lieutenant and Captain was available at 9:00 AM on July 10, until 3:00 PM on July 14, 2023, and is no longer available. 

 

STUDY GUIDE

 
The Study Guide for those testing to the rank of Lieutenant and Captain has been prepared to introduce candidates to the written promotional examination.  The guide will familiarize you with the written examination process and provide you with helpful information.

POST-TEST REVIEW 

 

The Illinois State Police Merit Board will offer candidates who participate in the 2023 Job Knowledge Exam to the rank of Lieutenant or Captain the opportunity to participate in a Post-Test Review.

Tuesday, October 3, at 8:30 AM, until Thursday, October 5, 2023, at 4:00 PM

 

Additional information will be provided directly to candidates at a later date. 

 

REMOTE TESTING 

 

Candidates are required to take the Promotional Examination at the designated sites and times determined by the State Police Merit Board except for two deviations: military leave or department authorized training. 

 
If you qualify for either of these deviations, you may apply for Remote Testing by completing a Remote Testing Request Form. The form is available for download at the link below.  The form must be submitted prior to any test administration in order to be considered for remote testing and for proper arrangements to be made.  
 
Please fully complete, sign and date the form and e-mail it to promotions@ispmeritboard.org. All requests will be reviewed and each candidate will receive a decision in writing.
